Drip Irrigation

I can water most of my stuff with a drip hose and a sprinker, but I've got 3 hydrangeas that I have to water with a can since they're far away from everything. They're young, so I'm watering them 3 times/week.

Is there a good/easy way to rig up something like a drip irrigation system that I could just quickly fill up every 3 days or so?

I thought about something like a gallon milk jug on some kind of pole with maybe a small hose that comes down and goes around the plant with a few pinholes in it. Not sure it'd work.

Multiple gallon milk jugs, but no need to hang them.

Make two pinholes in each jug (in opposite corners) and just above the bottom edge. Set jugs on top of root system.

I've done that with my clematis, and it worked great. I agree, no need to hang the jugs. Just set them down.

The only problem with drip irrigation for hydrangea (macrophillas) is that hydrangeas could absorb moisture thru the leaves and deliver them to the roots. In another words, porous stems of hydrangea is a two-way road.
So, while they are young overhead shower from time to time will be beneficial to the plant.
