What's Open Now...

17 years ago

I'm stuck here feeling sorry for myself after deciding not to attend my region's spring meeting (starts tomorrow night and I was planning to go until this evening), thanks to what appears to be bacterial laryngitis.

My mom and I (both ill) (along with one of her friends) managed to plant 60+ pines at the new place today and we still have 140+/- to finish planting. While we were there I (of course) had to check on my garden. Though I'm tired, sore, miserable, and virtually unable to speak, I wanted to share what's bloomed since my last gallery post and I can type just fine.

'Claire Doodle' (quite a substantial bloom for an MTB)

{{gwi:1007395}}

'Wrangler' (absolutely glows - neon)

{{gwi:1007396}}

'Persian Wood' (I'm crazy about those navy darts on a brown plicata)

{{gwi:1007397}}

'Devil's Playground' (had to have it after seeing , where it won best out of region (Blyth) last spring regional)

{{gwi:1007398}}

'Goose Bumps' (olive and wine this year - was tan and purple last year at the old place)

{{gwi:1007399}}

'Mariposa Skies' (waited 6+(!!) years for this thing to bloom and now there are a half dozen stalks, but they're all short - one even had 3 branches and a spur down into the foliage)

{{gwi:1007400}}

'Koi' ( a bonus from Denise at Snowpeak (several years ago), that I'm still thankful for)

{{gwi:1007401}}

'Dividing Line' (this is two stalks, but even so can anything more be said for this one?)

{{gwi:1007402}}

'Merit' (a good 5 or 6 stalks on what's left after sharing last year)

{{gwi:1007403}}

    Oh, that Devil's Playground is just amazing. And your bonus plant is my favorite color combo. I love those warm colors!

    You planted over 60 pines? As in trees? How does one do that in one day?

    That was misleading wasn't it? The three of us planted 60, 2' tall pines. It's still no fun when 2/3 of your workers are very sick and I'm worse today. Mom and her friend planted again today and got another 40 in. If my throat hasn't closed up completely, I'll be going back out to help get it finished tomorrow.

    Stopped by the old garden this evening and here's what's opened there:

    'End Zone'
    {{gwi:1007404}}

    'Winesap'
    {{gwi:1007405}}

    Noid (can't seem to find a red plicata in my iris list that matches this plant)
    {{gwi:1007406}}

    'Tiffanja'
    {{gwi:1007407}}

    Another Noid (reminds me of 'Jesse's Song')
    {{gwi:1007408}}

    BTW, I can't remember the last time I posted a link to my photobucket gallery, but you can see all my photos here. The photos I post here are just the ones I especially liked.

    I'm shocked Mariposa Skies took 6 years to bloom!!

    Come to think of it, Role Model finally bloomed for me after a number of years. Not in a good growing place.

    Love Wrangler.

    I love Wrangler too, and Koi, and all of the rest. I hope you and your family are feeling better now.

    You know, iris_gal, MS always had wonderfully healthy foliage, so maybe it was just in a high nitrogen pocket in it's old bed (?)

    Thank-you for your considerate words, Shadow. We're still a couple of wrecks (I even had a nosebleed to add to the party today) and we still didn't finish planting those *$%# pines!

    I hope that it doesn't bog down the load time when I add to my posts rather than starting another. Let me know if it's causing problems or if you've been missing them because you didn't even know I added them.

    Here's what was open today:

    'Garnet Jewelry' (not sure where the "garnet" comes in, but I really like it)
    {{gwi:1007409}}

    'Sailor'
    {{gwi:1007410}}

    'Striped Moonbeam' (an OGB- AB - bought it for the foliage which is variegated, but with irregular white pinstripes (not the regular blotches) I'd have a photo of the foliage, but it looks crummy right now)
    {{gwi:1007411}}

    'Merit' (again)
    {{gwi:1007412}}

    'Cheerful Doll'
    {{gwi:1007414}}

    'Devilish Nature'
    {{gwi:1007415}}

    'Easter' (yep, it's an SDB blooming with the first TBs - as is 'Flirting Again')
    {{gwi:1007416}}

    'Decipher' (really dark this year - looks black from afar)
    {{gwi:1007417}}

    'Decipher' buds (the spathes really stood out from across the garden - very dark (as are the spathes on 'Cheerful Doll')
    {{gwi:1007418}}

    Thanks for the link to your photobucket acct. I'll save it for tomorrow when I have plenty of time to enjoy it.
