A Few IBs

The IBs are just starting to roll here, so I thought I'd post what's open now.

'Hagar's Helmet' (this thing is just a mess (it even has an extra petal that wraps around the buds like a spathe), but it's supposed to be of historic interest as one of or the first spaceage median(s) (if I remember right))

'Honey Glazed' (grows like a weed)

'Wild Lad' (one of my favorite smoky Blyths - pink and all)

'Champagne Encore' (had the only legitimate rebloom (spring and fall bloom in one year) I've ever had last year)

'Aurora's Blush' (nice, but doesn't drag me over from afar)

'Ruby Slippers' (didn't wow me last year, but now I can't imagine my garden without it)

'Jersey Cream' (really heavy substance and the most pollen of the IBs currently open)

'Omar's Eye' (a mundane flower/color, but it's a reliable Arilbred median)

I failed to mention it before, but everything at the new place was planted way too late in the season, was never watered, and has been enveloped in weeds; so you should be able to deduce that these are tough! Here's what one of the 18, 80' rows looks like (you can see the row to the left hasn't been hoed yet and the others need it again):

I can't wait until I live there, so that I don't have to try and tend three gardens!! Time is getting the better of me.

I almost forgot, the old girl (since iris always seem to get a female persona) that got me interested in iris years ago is in bloom now, too. It's been blooming every year since we moved into that house 24 years ago (I was just over a year old at the time).

I'm really crazy about WL. It has a much more smoky/gray/mysterious look in the garden than the photo shows. I didn't know IBs would grow there. Is it just MDBs and SDBs that give you trouble?

WL may be one of those IBs with fertility issues, because, of all the crosses I made with it last year, only one was "successful" - 2 seeds. The cross was WL X 'What Again' (not really sure what I was thinking at the time)

It grows well, too. After sharing (a, then, 2 year) clump of it with my old neighbor and my friend that helped me line things out, it still has 4 first year stalks!

They are all pretty, but my favorites are Wild Lad and Aurora Blush. Wow, if you have eighteen 80' rows that sure is a lot to take care of. Seems like it would be a major project to keep the weeding done. Wouldn't it be nice if only flowers grew and not the weeds. I hope you get to move there soon. I also think that "the old girl" is a very pretty iris.

There many, many more stalks than I expected (considering what these things have gone through) yet to bloom and you know I'll share photos when they do. I still have to move the rest of my old garden too, but I can't bring myself to dig them when all the beds look like this:
