new set up... nutrient question

Greetings... I am setting up my first deep culture system and am sourcing all my items locally if possible. I was told I could use Medina hasta gro plant as nutrient but I can not find anyone recommending a concentration.. Has anyone used this? What is the best mix rate to gallon of water?

At this point I am just experimenting... I want to grow tomatoes and bell peppers but right now just trying to grow anything to test my setup... I appreciate the quick response

To just test a set up, I recommend growing some basil or other leafy herb. They're short season plants (or can be) and will let you know how things are working really quickly. When I grew basil and parsley, I simply used miracle grow and epsom salts for nutrients. I haven't done it in a long while, but if I can find the index card with my concentration notes, I'll post it.

Thanks Grzzman... You put forward something I had not thought of... however I think I misslead the conversation... I am trying to find a good nutrient concentration in general for hydroponics... I know a lot of yhe nutrient is crop specific and I am seriously considering just getting some commercial hydro nutrient.... my setup is deep culture and I have 6 plants per pod of water... I am looking for a middle ground that would be a good starting point... I was trying to stay local and heard that t he medina product I listed above was good even though it is not a specific hydro product. Because of that fact the mix rate is not published and I am killing plants trying to figure it out... :-( Also since this will most likely end in fustration and I will be buying nutrient I also what to get a since of what is good out there... I really want to find a mix that will let me mix and match plants without fusssing too much with the water... I know it will not be optimal but I will get more hands on later right now I just want to see something not die... I realize there could be a multitude of reasons but I really think it is bad water mixing... experimentation so far is ky only method for attempting the mix

Well I am not familiar with your product but here is a way to get something to get you started:
multiple the number of liters in your reservior (how much you'll put in there)by 60. Divide that number by 1000. Then divide that result by the percentage of Nitrogen within the fertilizer. The percentage number will be between 0 and 1. if you're using a number larger than 1, divide by 100 for the percentage.
If I looked at the right product, it appears your N is 6%, so that translates to 3.8 grams per gallon
That shouldn't be strong enough to kill your plants, though, unless it is a complete formula, it probably isn't enough to make it flourish either.

Isn't Medina hasta gro a soil fertilizer? Just jumping into hydro is a pretty steep learning curve, why complicate it by using nutrients that weren't designed for hydroponics.

If I were you, I would stop by your local hydro shop and pick up whatever nute package seems popular and supported by the shop.

I grow a lot of hot peppers and they don't seem to be heavy feeders so my nute strength is 6-700 ppm (about 1/2 the recommended max strength), but tomatoes probably need more since they grow much faster.

Thanks grizzman I appreciate the numbers... Jeff H I understand what you are saying. I am probably going to buy some hydro nutrient... where I am at there are no hydro shops within 150 miles of me that I know of... I will most likely order online... I heard this would work and was available locally.
