Cooling Towers

Hi everyone.

Im new to this site and although i did a search on cooling towers (evaporative cooling) here i didn't find any info so i hope this hasn't been spoken about before.

I live in South Africa and would l to setup a couple of tunnels to grow flowers for the freshcut flower market. In summer the temperature here goes to around 30 deg C so one of my biggest worries is how to keep the nutrient solution temperature at a safe level. As we all know the cooling of neuts can be very costly so i was thinking of attempting a cooling tower flowing back to my main reservoir which would be sunken for added insulation.

I plan on using either gravel beds with a constant film of nutrients flowing over the roots (NFT) or maybe ebb n flow tables which would gather less heat than the gravel beds i suppose.

I have read on a few sites where farmers have used cooling towers but no where have they said whether it was successful or not or info on how big the towers were.

If anyone could shed some light on this subject i would really appreciate it.

Thanks
