My favorite pink - Vanity, Hager, 1975 Dykes Medal winner. Red, I like The Red Douglas, Sass, 1937, Dykes Medal winner
Gold, Gold Galore, Schreiner, 1978
Yellow, Ola Kala, Sass, 1942, Dykes Medal winner
I don't have an historic brown that I like.

Brown Lasso, Niswonger, 1972 ???

I also think Ola Kala is a great yellow, and Vanity is a wonderful pink. I like Elkhart or Christabel for reds. For a beautiful brown try Gingerbread Castle.

All of these are great growers for me:

Brown: Bronze Bell (Schreiner 1957): very large blooms
Pink: Dogrose (Insole 1930): smooth blooms
Yellow: Happy Days (Mitchell 1934): very rare, not available commercially
Gold: Tut's Gold (Schreiner 1979): nice golden self.
Red: Vitafire (Schreiner 1968): smooth cherry red.
