They should be fine if it just the top of the rhizomes that are exposed. If the roots are showing you might want to put some soil back around them. There is planting instruction on almost all the commercial sites listed on the AIS website.

You want the tops of the tubers exposed. I have a friend who worked for a lady who grew show iris. It was his job to brush the soil off the tops of the iris rizomes.
