What should I expect

Hi everyone,

I'm new to Hydrangeas, and it looks like I'm off to a rough start! I bought a macrophylla 'Homigo' at HD on clearance a few weeks ago. We've had near flood rain so it's not in the ground yet or close to it. But I've read it does poorly in zone 5-can be killed in our winters or the buds get killed and no blooms. I really like this plant-HELP! Should I heavy winter protect, or maybe I can grow this as a houseplant. Thanks so much,

Not as a houseplant, but you can grow it in a container outdoors and then store it in the garage or basement during the winter months. Just don't forget to give it a drink now and then during the winter months.
If you want to keep it in the ground, you will need to protect it well. There are many threads about over wintering techniques on this site......yg
