Newbie needs iris help!

My husband and I bought a house last year and I spent all last summer being patient and waiting to see what was going to grow before deciding what I wanted to do with the yard. Well, we had some iris grow on the south side of the house but they never bloomed. I want to put a veggie garden there but I would like to transplant the iris but I don't know if they will bloom or not. Is there a reason that they did this? Is it possible for them to just be too old to bloom? This house is 50+ years old and it is possible that they have been here for a loooong time!! Help...I need to know what to do!

Thanks,

Channin
