Donna, something is wrong.
It's fully hardy in z6, not to say in z8 where you are.
It's just past the prime about two weeks ago here.
Have you pruned it last fall or this spring?

Hi, and thanks for responding. No, I have not pruned the plant at all. When I purchased it, the fellow at the quality nursery pruned it back however, and I wondered about that. The plant is healthy and growing - it's just that I don't need anymore "green" around here if you get my point. Some people comment that the flowers - if you get them - are not worth the price! Do you have an opinion about that? Any help would be appreciated. Donna

If you have alcaline soil flowers will be more or less generic pink/red lacecap flowers. In acidic soil you'll have dirty lavender/pink/whatever sterile florets with washed denim very loose sterile center.
Something like this (after being just for one year in my acidic soil)

The main attraction is a red new stems growth and the fall color of the foliage.

However, in order to get that color it should get a considerable amount of sun, but for the sunny location you could find a lot of much more interesting plants, especially in your zone.

Ment 'very loose fertile center'

My husband inadvertantly cut down my Lady In Red Hydrangea last fall. This spring, the plant produced leaves but no flowers. Is there any way I can encourage flowers for next season?
