Hydrangeas are puzzling me...

I planted Hydrangeas this spring I thought they would be worth the effort...in Denver. I knew they would need lots of attention and i've been giving it to them. So here's my problem: all my potted plants are wilting and i cant figure out whats wrong with them. They were doing great until Denver got 2 weeks of storms, raining every day. Some days the pots would be full of standing water. So i figured root rot. so i pulled the worst looking one and no root rot! I read the roots would be black and stinky...all of the roots were white-ish yellow. There were a few (hardly any) that the yellow was a darker yellow...one could say almost brown...almost. So i loosened that root ball quite a bit and mixed in some cedar mulch for better drainage. No where in my yard (also have 5 hydrangeas in the ground) or my pots does the soil get dry it is always wet...so i think i have bad soil/potting soiling. The pots were a mix of compost and left over dirt from the yard. i have been doing the finger test and all the pots and ground soil are always wet but if i dont water they stay wilty and if i do water some of the perk up. I stopped water the worst of the pots (the soil stay moist the whole time) trying to get them better...to no avail. The two wiltiest ones have not perked up since they got bad. So can anyone help? Ive included pictures...

The first picture is the one i uprooted that had no signs of root rot

#2&3 is one i potted at exact same time and same way and it seems to be pulling through

#4&5 used to be my best one, full foliage, and the blooms were just starting to come in its the worst now

#6 was planted same time and way as 4-5 it has snapped back

#7,8&9 were all planted same time and way...they wilt in the day recover at night...O if your wondering why there is so much dead on the i left for a week and didnt program the drip lines correctly, so the didnt get any water, and the were completely brown when i returned but with a little watering the pushed out new leaves and are flowering again!
