What shade of blue was this iris, light blue, sapphire blue, dark blue? Do you remember enough of the smell to describe it? Flowery, fruity, spicy? These might help in narrowing the field down a bit. Hope someone here is able to help you find your Iris!

if your grandmother is still alive, you might ask her..if not,try looking in pastures and around old abandoned houses.it is probably a historical iris..try AIS to see if they can help identify it.

I. Pallida is a commonly found old blue-lavender variety with a wonderful, rich grape scent. In my experience most irises have a good scent. If there are any historic iris display gardens in your area you might visit and see the older irises, give them a sniff and see if any are close enough to your grandmothers variety for your liking. Given the thousands of blue irises that have been registered in the last 70 years it is unlikely you could locate the exact variety without a name.
