Hydrangea in bed with Lime Rock?

Hello everyone,

I live close to the coast, south of Houston, Tx, zone 9. I decided to plant 6 hydrangeas in a the flower beds surrounding the front of my house (3 on each side). That area gets sun from 7am - 2pm. Instead of filling the flower beds with mulch or soil, we filled it with white lime rock. I read that lime tends to work against the acidic levels and no matter what I attempt to do, my blooms will not be blue. Of course I read this after 14 hrs of hard landscaping labor.

The hydrangeas have been doing well with the amount of hot sun they are getting everyday, they dont wilt and I water them often. But I have noticed that some spots on the leaves ar changing from deep green to lime green. I have read that it is a nutrient defficiancy??

I really want my hydraneas to do well, mainly because my husband was not supportive of my choice of plants to put in the flowerbeds. They dont have thick stems but seem more leggy. I am afraid of fertilizing them because they were very young when I bought them from Lowes, buds but no blooms. And Iv read that you shouldn't fertilize unless they are 1 yr old. They were labeled as FAST GROWERS, but mine are not growing at a fast rate.

I will try to post photos, if you could please take a look and give me your opinions of whether they are doing well, the lime green colors, and your opinions on the lime rock I would surely appreciate it. I love Hydrangeas and I am hoping to grow beautiful flowering shrubs in front of my home.

This hydrangea was a foil plant I was given on Mothers Day, it gets afternoon sun and has fried:( I am planning on moving it to a pot on the porch.
