transplanting a JM seedling

We have a very large Japanese Maple on our property that could be close to 60-75 years old. This summer we discovered a young JM seedling that has grown to about 2 feet tall. It is not in the most ideal site and we would like to move it. Any suggestions/advice? Thanks.

Sorry for the delay in reponses. The Maples forum is far more active and Japanese maples make up a large percentage of the topics. Any question you have about growing these trees will be answered there promptly.

Japanese maple seedlings are best moved while they are dormant or without leaves. Any time that your soil is workable and the seedling is without leaves is fine. Try to disturb the roots as little as possible.
