Skewed Start

I finally have a few irises in bloom but they are not in order by the book, (The World of Irises).

Arilbreds are the first to bloom here ordinarily and for a week or so they are on stage alone. Then they are joined by the SDBs.

On Thursday Linda Mann's SDB bicolor seedling bloomed. Today the entire clump is in bloom. It looks like a miniature of MASTERY.

ARMADILLO RUN was the first TB to bloom. It did so on Friday and must be forty inches tall. It has a little freeze damage on one fall, but the stalk is perfect and the other blooms should improve.

BURST, a TB, opened today along with the IB INTERMEDIARY and an arilbred seedling from Pele x Jehasophat's Reliance. The sdlg. is disappointing because the flowers are too big for the stalk. It is blooming at SDB height.

The arilbreds, SDBs, and IBs seem well behind in development than the TBs this year.

Has there ever been a normal year for iris blooms? If so,

when?
