Using hydroponics to augment transplants

Hello, everyone.

I know next to nothing about hydroponics other than the theorectical knowledge that is availble via the Internet and books.

One advantage of hydroponics that is repeatly cited is that the growth rates of hydroponic plants is significantly faster than those in a soil media.

I was curious: For normally slow growing plants like hardwood trees, could one raise transplants using hydroponics to get a "jump" on their growth before they are introduced into a soil media?

My main worry about a hydroponics to soil approach would be the transplant shock. Going from having nutrients availble in such a ready form to having to gleam it from soil must be pretty stressful.

Thanks, everyone, for your time and attention.
