Oakleaf hydrangea transplant

I need to transplant an Oakleaf hydrangea right now. I know it is not the ideal time for this but it must be moved from a property that is being sold. It is a small one and only planted about 1 yr ago. It is now in bloom. Should I cut the blooms off when I transplant it to reduce stress? Any tips would be appreciated.

You can. If you can move as much of the rootball as you can (get help moving it so it does not collapse), you may reduce transplant shock even further. Water it the night before moving it and always prepare the new hole so all you have to do is transport it and place it in its new location. Do not leave it in a pick up bed where it can be dried out by the wind. Inside a car is best. Do not aim the a/c vents at it.

Blooms will be the first that shrub will abort when it is stressed. Do not fertilize it any more this year either. Monitor soil moisture in its new location daily for a week or so using the finger method.
