limelight:: containing 'depth'

16 years ago

I have wanted a limelight for years. sigh.... Now I MIGHT have a spot for one. I can grow as tall as it wants, and it can be 6 feet long.... but i would like to contain it's depth to 4 feet. So it would be more oval or rectangular than circular. Am I asking for trouble?

Thanks in advance,

Sandy

I'm no expert.... but I do plan on pruning mine in an oblong egg shape (oval like you said) per Deborah Silver's instructions. A few of us had asked her for advice in planting hedges like the ones she has on her blog, and she said giving them a shag haircut in the Spring (shorter on, longer on the sides) will help light get to the lower branches and increase flowering. Now, if they will be kept to 4 ft. in this shape.... that is a different story---I can't speak to that because mine are only 3 months old! :)
