Welcome! Bird netting may be a good idea over that shallow end. You can elevate it enough so your lilys have room. Koi get rambunctious during spawning. They can and will jump then, or sometimes if they get spooked.

You can put your Koi out when the outdoor pond temp is over 55 degrees, but you would have to acclimate the fish to the colder pond. Most likely it is best to wait awhile until the temp of the pond gets close to the indoor tank, and when the outdoor temps are more stable. You might also want to search the net for info on cycling your filters so that they will be ready for the fish. Are the goldies in the pond already?

Koi and goldies get along just fine. But goldies breed like rabbits and your pond may soon be overstocked. Happy ponding. Lisa

If there was one thing I wish someone had told me last year, it would be not to put goldfish in my pond. I had several and some shubunkins. I spent soooo many hours fishing out babies...which we were unable to find any homes or pet stores to take them. It wasn`t fun to have to destroy them. I got ride of all my fish except the Koi. Actually the woman I buy my fish from said koi and goldfish can breed but the resulting offspring are very bland, so I opted to stick to just the koi from now on.

hmmmm......I have had goldfish in my small preform pond for going on 3 years now and have NEVER seen one single baby. I would be thrilled if I even had one (I love my goldfish). This year I am rebuilding the pond (no preform this time) and adding koi to the mix, I just bought 3 a week ago that are in an aquarium inside the house for now. I don't know what kind they are except the white one is a butterfly (it saw so pretty I couldn't resist buying it). I have tried koi in the past but they never survived. Not sure if it was the conditions of the pond or just my lack of knowledge about koi. Thanks to this forum I have gained a lot of knowledge over the past year about having a pond in general as well as what a goldfish or koi requires to survive. I feel comfortable now trying something new to me knowing that IF there is something I am having a problem with there are many VERY knowledgable people on this forum that are always willing to help or give advice.

Hang in there Gardin Angel. You and I are both in the same boat where adding koi in with our goldfish is concerned. We will get through this and I'm sure everything will be fine...with a little help from our forum friends if needed.
I'm more worried about my goldfish picking on the smaller koi. The koi are only 3" to 4" and the goldfish are double or triple their size. It's going to be an interesting summer to say the least.
