unknown iris

I have 2 iris I am curious if anyone can ID. I have never seen the pink one before. It came from my husband's grandmother's several years ago. The falls are very rose colored, this is a really bad photo though, I'll try to get a better one. Most of the flower is peach colored, but the center of the falls is very rosy. The second one may very well be a seedling, I don't remember planting anything where it is.

Your second one might be OPAL BEAUTY (Schreiner 1955).

I know the one in the back is Indian Chief! :)

Well, I kept the names of all the iris I have purchased/received. Opal Beauty doesn't ring a bell, although it does look like it.
I sure hope that isn't Indian Chief in back-I have it as Christabel! I just made several trades assuming it is Christabel.I've had it several years. I just traded for Indian Chief too! I guess I'll be able to compare them. The rhizomes I received look much smaller than my Christabel, I also have another iris that looks much like this one, but flowers & iris are shorter. I've never known the name of that one. Guess I need to do some more investigation on Christabel, huh.

Your red is probably Christabel. It has that bit of flare to the falls that IC doesn't. Plus IC is a very tall iris, and this one look short.

I think your second one may be Evolution. I'd expect a 1950's Schreiner variety to have wider falls. Evolution is from 1929 and would have those narrower falls on it. The colors on E are hard to capture in a pic - sometimes looking more subtle, sometimes more intense depending on the light. Your first one looks a little like Buffawn, but the color seems more intense on the falls than I remember B having.

Very pretty iris. I don't think the first one is BUFFAWN, since you mention the 'rosy' falls, and B is not rosy (to me anyways). It does resemble it, and it might be, but the 'rosy' part bothers me, and I don't think the shape is quite right. The second one, I don't think that is EVOLUTION either. I grow E and it does not have those narrow hafts. I actually think it looks more like DESERT CANYON on the old HIPS site.
You can see both EVOLUTION and BUFFAWN at the HIPS website. Take a look and let us know what you think.

Laetitia - You're right,it does look alot more like Desert Canyon than Evolution. I don't think the first is Buffawn either, just that it reminds me of it.

The second one does look remarkably like Desert Canyon, although mine is a bit paler. It is growing in almost full shade right now though. I'm really thinking it grew from seed because of where I planted it. I will move it to sun & see if colors are different next year. I suppose it could be a desert canyon seedling. Here is another picture of the 1st one, but I can't quite capture the color of the falls. Perhaps rosy isn't the correct word, but they are just a bit deeper than what is pictured, & the whole iris seems just a bit more peach. Maybe that is my monitor colors, because on my camera they look right. The falls are usually longer than the first pic too, more like 2nd. It is a tall iris, maybe 44" or so. It doesn't matter if I don't ID it, it belonged to the family :) I just have never seen one quite like it and was curious. I appreciate the suggestions.
