preparing climbing hydrangea for winter

We planted four climbing hydrangea this spring. They have grown a little and appear healthy. They are at the back of our yard against a chain link fence that borders a cliff wall below. I am wondering if there is anything special I should do to prepare them this Fall for the winter months?

You could mulch. Do not fertilize as you want the plant to begin to go dormant now and fertilizers might force the plant to stay in growth mode. About 1/2 to 1 cup in June is all they need in a year. Do not prune so next year's blooms are not cut. It would be ok to amend the soil now if there are any signs of iron chlorosis.
