temporary transplant?

I have a couple dozen yellow Dutch Iris plants that I dug-up from the front yard, divided and transplanted along my backyard fence in fall '04. They've finally established in their new home and are about to bloom. Problem is we are scheduled to replace the fence along which they live 2 weeks from now and I fear they will be completely trampled by the contractors. Can I dig these up temporarily and replace them 3-4 days after the new fence is up? If so, how should I store/care for them until they can go back into the ground? Will they still bloom?

Thanks so much in advance for any help on this!
