Iris newbie

I want to rework the flower bed in my front yard and need to move some irises. They're well-established (at least 8 years old but more likely 20+ years) and perfectly profuse. Obviously I need to wait for them to finish blooming (next month?), but do I then need to wait the suggested 4-6 weeks to dig? Should I replant them as they are or divide them? Will the smaller/younger cuts of the division take longer to establish? Should I cut back the stems or the leaves? Sorry for asking so many questions, but I don't want the ghost of the previous owner haunting me for killing her flowers! :)

And out of curiosity, any idea what variety these are? I imagine it's not any kind of fancy cultivar, but I don't know what to call it other than "bearded."
