Ordered My Irises Today

Well I ordered my irises today after doing a lot of research here and on Ebay as to what was the most popular and sot after irises. I talked to each of the online venders to make sure they had each one in stock before I ordered.

Snowpeak Iris and Daylilly

Intrepide

TB King Tush

TB-RE Chinese New Year

Schreiner's Iris Gardens

World Premier

Starship Enterprise

Spiced Tiger

Gnus Flash

Poem of Ecstasy

Hello Darkness

Falcon Pride

Paul Black / Thomas Johnson

Mid-America Garden

Paul Black

Sea Power

This forum has a lot of good information if you use the search feature. Thanks for all the great posts guys and gals, it has made my iris starting venture much easier.

I hope you get all you have ordered. One on your list may confirm, not send, and then give you a voucher for next year! Nowhere in their extensive, color catalog do they mention vouchers. Or, at least I haven't found it.

I hope that I get them all also, Denise at Snowpeak Iris and Daylilly and Paul Black at Mid-America Garden were both really nice people to order from over the phone and seemed like they value their customers. Schreiner's Iris Gardens could only confirm that they had the ones that I was ordering and that I should have ordered early enough to get them?? We will see in a month or so what shows up at the door step.

Good choices! I'm familiar with a number of them from seeing pix in the gallery. I ordered kind of late, too, and many of the ones I wanted were sold out. But I'll probably do the same thing next year. :-)

I ordered very late too (from Landfair Gardens) but they were all 50% off so I couldn't resist. I ordered on May 31st but they aren't shipping until the 25th or 26th of June. These will be my first Irises too so we'll see how they fare, good luck!

This is considered late ordering? I ordered from Schreiners a set of 16. I thought I was doing well and ordering early.

Just a quick update, all of my Schreiner's order came in yesterday and they sent me Magical Encounter as a 2nd bonus. I am a happy camper...

Yes, this is late for ordering iris. Some iris growers have already stopped taking orders as their cutoff is the end of July.
You also get a better chance of getting your selection if you order early.
April is the time to do it...but I am just as guilty.
Just put in a 'supplementary' order to Superstition today!

I also end up making a supplementary order in late July -- even if I know I have no room left! There are always items you can't get if you order late. I missed out on my two big splurges this year --Florentine Silk and Elizabethan Age-- because I waited too long before deciding they were "really worth it." By that time they were gone, gone, gone.

There must be a real science to guessing your yield. I saw Leslie Painter (Napa) out in the fields really studying her increases this spring. She really wanted to get it right. I've ordered from Napa, Superstition, MidAmerica, Schreiner, Snowpeak, Woodland and Lauers and they all seem to keep pretty good tabs on what they will have in the field. But it seems to be a good idea to confirm before you send in a late order.

Even if the "hot ones" are gone, there are a zillion other goodies out there that you can still order in August.
