iris from seed

I have been watching the seed pods on Morning Snow/Show get bigger and bigger, there are 3 of them. I was wanting to start some seeds and was reading some of the information about how to do it. How long would it take to get flowers? I'm not a very patient person. Waiting is soooo hard. I think I expect to much wanting flowers the next year. Marg

Marg, It usually takes 2 to 3 years for iris to bloom from seed. Sometimes it does take longer. The seed need to be stratified....so leaving the tray out in winter, or planting seed in the garden will take care of this. It can take up to the second spring for seeds to sprout.

Some say seed in a damp papertowel in a baggie in the fridge for 6 weeks work.....I can't verify this, as I haven't tried it.

You can harvest the seed when the pods start to split open, before they drop.

It is a long wait for flowers, but I waited longer for a peony I started from seed.
