Your bed is not 'messy'. At least in my opinion, it looks like a 'natural' setting.

Pretty much everything that you see except the iris and blue flax are poppies. I love them but until they bloom, in most pictures, they look like weeds.

Perfect illustration for those who are convinced their iris "change colors". I hope you save this pic for each post that comes up with that question! Or I will save it with your permission.

I've gotta ask -- why on earth are you going to dig that up and plant grass?

I guess its called "surprise." What a nice surprise it is! I love when iris are planted with companions. You have a beautiful garden.

WOW. You guys are actually making me regret planting this bed in grass LOL! My DH would like more lawn :o] Now that I have a new secret garden, I have room for the iris in the yard and then some.

I just dug the Honorable NOID clump and this is what I found (I marked the bloom stalk of Pocahontas with a permanent marker when it was still blooming):

This picture is the Pocahontas clump that I found.
It amazed me how big the Pocahontas clump actually was! The area where these were planted was lawn (for 20 years) and since I received my other Pocahontas and Honorable NOID from the same person (at the same time) it is obvious there was a tiny piece of Pocahontas hitching a ride on the single Honorable rhyzome that I planted here 3 years ago. Notice how long the mother rhyzome is? Telling me the original tiny piece was buried deep (probably under the Honorable NOID rhyzome) and had to reach for the soils' surface where it mulitiplied like mad.
Pretty interresting....
