It should survive through winter if you do nothing...maybe cover it with a good layer of mulch per the ES official website. The whole purpose of growing ES is not having to worry about it over the winter. Even if the stems die back, new ones will bring flowers next year....yg

You don't need to winter protect Endless Summer, even if dies to the ground it is not an issue in terms of flowering, as it blooms on new wood too.

If you are concerned about giving the ground a little extra insulation to help the root zone, plopping down some mulch a couple inches around the root zone will be helpful. No need to buy anything fancy - a couple inches of leaves will do the trick nicely. In addition, a nice layer of mulch will help retain moisture. Also, keep watering the bushes until the ground freezes - just be careful not to over-water - lot of people neglect watering in the fall, not being mindful of the fact that roots keep growing even if the bush is going dormant (fall is prime time for root growth).

Should I cut back my hydrangea bushes and if so how much.
For some reason, I feel that I should cut them back before winter coverage. I found nothing on doing this.

James, you will typically get better and more responses if you initiate a new thread with your question rather than tacking it on the end of an old thread. As to pruning now, not recommended, and in some cases - depending on type - would be counterproductive and eliminate the possibility of flowers next season even with winter protection.

I have an endless summer, three winters now. It is hardy to zone 3 doing nothing, supposedly. ZN 6 should not be a problem what so ever. I have been covering mine in oak leaves just in case.
