It's ordering time--what are you buying?

Just placed my order with Keith Keppel for some Adriatic Waves and Russian Violet, and will probably order Grape Expectations from somewhere. Also covet Silken Trim from Schreiner's. It's a bonus iris, which means I'll have to order something else from them (oh darn).

Then begins the hard part--where can I put them? Not much more fits in the garden, and I've already stolen back more of the lawn than DH is happy about.

I cannot believe this, but I actually ordered six more irises and got two from the San Fernando Valley Iris Sale.
I got Enchanter (gorgeous lilac) and Loretto Heights (40"!) from SFVIS. I have no place to plant either one.

From Blue J, I ordered Ruth Black, which I have always wanted, ordered before, and gotten the wrong iris for; Repartee, a nice red and cream amoena which will look stunning with my Japanese Blood Grass; Tropical Butterfly, a showy historic; Bel Esprit, just because I thought my mom or someone in the Iris Society would like it; Soap Opera, because of Blue J's photo and it reblooms; and finally, an impulse buy, Orchid Pinstripe, because it just looks so lovely. I will make spots for Repartee, Tropical Butterfly, and Orchid Pinstripe. Already reserved a spot for Ruth Black- two years ago! Soap Opera is on its own. It will go into the pile of irises waiting to be planted somewhere, sometime soon, probably after I win the lottery and buy a bigger property. Mom has first claim on Bel Esprit.

I must say, though, that I got rid of a lot of irises this year- over 20 that were crammed into inappropriate spots. I still have about 10 I need to get rid of completely, but I am having separation anxiety.

I love Russian Violet! Grape Expectations is a shocker. I think that iris could have a whole garden built around it. I like the Shreiner's iris too. I ordered from them a few years ago to get No Count Blues as the bonus.
Aquawise, what have you ordered? I want to look them all up.

Oooh! Orchid pinstripe! And Bel Esprit is to die for--if I were you, Renee, I'd be hoping my mom said 'no thank you.' It's a Keppel, and I seem to be particularly drawn to his iris. I've got Florentine Silk, a fave, and Parisian Dawn and Bollywood.
Looking at his catalog, I had a crisis of conscience because every bone in my body wanted his new release Spendthrift, but at $45 for a single fan, the chancellor of the exchequer rebelled. Maybe next year. Here's what I covet. Nuff said.

Kay, I coughed up 20 bucks for an iris last year and I'm still in shock. If I paid 45 it would rot for sure!

Aquawise, I am familiar with almost all of your purchases, which probably means we have the same taste. I really want to see Crimson Snow and Sweeter Than Wine when they bloom!

I've neglected my "Silverado" and "Dusky Challenger" so I am definitely going to replace them.

I'm also looking to get "Rhinelander" because I like it's color. And "Aristocracy" looks good too.

All of these are "selfs" so I'd like to get something new and unique. But I don't like those irises that have been created by 'viruses'. Any suggestions?

Oh boy Kay, I purposely left out what I ordered. Ok but you
must pinkie swear not to make fun! lol There really is a rhyme and a reason that I've ordered so many... Down here in the deep south I've read that not all cultivars will do well. (I promise it has nothing to do with an addiction!) ;) So I expect some to not do so well and well I needed to order plenty in case quite a few don't make it. And I wanted more of some of my favorites and a few died last year so I am replacing some of those as well as I've learned quite a bit more about their care and think I'll do a better job of getting them to succeed. So here goes, just remember you asked...

Blue J's - Pallida White Zebra, Pallida Yellow Zebra, Pallida Argentea variegata, Quite The Same (variegated foliage) Zebra Blush (variegated foliage), Blue Tulip, Clematis, Rhythm, Dance For Joy, Darius, Dashing, Daughter Of Stars, Delirium, Autumn Years, Doodle Strudel, Elainealope, Gnu Blues, Alpha Gnu, Calico Kid, Cheetah Cheese, Emu Zing, Isn't This Something, Raspberry Silk,

I requested shipment in September so that I would have all of the beds ready that I will need. Also this is half of my Blue J order. Do you really want all of what I've ordered? lol I will check back and if so I will list all the rest of my order and also my orders with all of the other companies as well.

And I promise Renee to photograph and post pics when (if) they bloom next year! You know Renee your partially to blame for this! lol Renee said in one of her posts that she likes to buy several different varieties of the same color and she keeps the one she likes the best and that thrives in her garden. So I thought hum that's a great idea!

Yep--inquiring minds want to know. Bring on the rest of your list, Rena!
And you're absolutely right--a lot of this is Renee's fault. Her "buy several varieties of the same" philosophy is almost as enabling as her mouth-watering photography!!

It's a vicious circle. You'll post, and I'll buy more...

jmc, I just learned that there are no irises created with viruses, so you are in luck. Tulips have viruses that create stripes, but not irises. There are, however, some irises that are weaker growers, and luminata irises seem to have a hard time doing well in some climates. I'm not a fan of broken color irises myself, but many people like them.

You really have to go with irises you like. If I was in your shoes, I would visit MidAmerica and Napa Country Iris website. Or head on over to Facebook and look at all of the photos of new irises being posted on the American Iris Society Facebook page.

My favorite newer iris with a different look is 'Looky Loo'. I have Rhinelander- it's a subtle color, almost grayed. I'm not crazy about the form of the flower, though.

What I really love Is the BC's! To each his/her own. I can't remember if it was Renee or Rita but I'm thinking Rita posted a pic of it and several thought that it was ugly. Me? Well I thought it was the most beautiful Iris I've ever seen! So I ordered as many different BC's as I could afford. The Kasperek ones are amazing!

I was laughing myself silly with your message near the top Renee! If I win the lottery (I don't play so I guess I'll keep my fingers crossed for DH's ticket) I am hiring a gardener to do all the stuff I hate to do! #1 WEEDING!

OK. Kay enough of my droning... the rest of my order for

Blue Jay - Saturday Night Live, Fantasm, Anaconda Love, Old Black Magic, Tiger Shark, Brimstone, French Can Can, Canadian Streaker (variegated), Artist's Time, Striped Moonbeam (variegated), Megabucks, Warlock, Witching, Vanilla Fudge, Faux Pas, Classic Suede, By His Stripes, Bronco Brown, Wine & Roses, Watch It, Plum Pretty Whiskers, Concertina, Peach Royale, Pirate's Patch, Strawberry Cream, Tiger Honey, Newsflash, Volunteer Fireman, Progressive Additude, Famous Fantasy, Palm Reader, Red Devil, Lady Friend, Little Blue Eyes, Turkish Topaz, Urban Star, High Ho Silver, Sugar Snaps, Triple Dragon, Toucan Tango, Town Clown, Autumn Wine, Awesome Blossom, Yosemite Nights, Praetorian Guards, Messy Jessi, Kaleidoscope, Kermit, Klingon Princess, October Splendor, What Again, Venetian Queen, Fashionably Late, Isadora Belle, Mardi Gras Lanterns, Glo-Ray Hallelujah, Plum Poodle, Black Hills Jewelry, Scented Nutmeg, Flyby, Zebra Blush, Strozzapretti, Pokeman, Powersurge, Rancho Rose, Rancho Grande, Rare Treat, Raspberry Silk, Drama Rama, Rufflelata, Sugarplum Delight, Aggressively Forward, Alene's Other Love, Ascent Of Angels, Austrian Garnets, Autumn Bugler, Autumn Circus, Autumn Thunder, Autumn Tryst, Baby Blessed, Baditude, Bella Rose, Bethany Claire, Blackcurrant, Blue Fin, Breakers, Buckwheat, Cajun Rhythm, Canary Delight (variegated I think, it seems I read somewhere that it is just variable) Circus Top, Cosmic Dawn, Domaine, Double Shot, Double Your Fun, Dream Scene, Dude, Gay Geisha, Gene Machine, Genetic Artist, Gina The Gypsy, Her Royal Highness, Joan's Pleasure, Lace Artistry, Midnight Fragrance, Moby Grape, Oasis Sunset, October Splendor, Orange Empire, Panama Hattie, Persimmon Pie, Pleased As Punch, Precious Little Pink, Pure As Gold, Queen Dorothy, Speed Limit, Sue Zee, Sugar Blues, Suky, Summer Holidays, Summer Radiance, Telepathy, Time Traveler, Tomorrow's Child, Too Many Flounces, Touche' Trust, and Vingolf

My other orders are much smaller than this one. In case you are wondering what was my deciding factors on the Iris that I purchased here they are Reblooming, Fragrance, Broken Colors, other's pics and last but not least impulse! I poured over Blue J's site for 2 weeks tweaking my order.
I found a gardenweb (I believe) post that stated most fragrant Iris, so I wrote all of those down, found another that said your "Top 5 Must Have Iris" (or was it 10?) anyway I wrote those down. Another that said "Your Best Rebloomers" (or something to that affect). Wrote down the ones where posters (hint hint Renee) shared picks. Off the top of my head I can think of 4 that I ordered like that Kay - Plum Pretty Whiskers, Persian Berry (last year's order), Grizzly Gosling & Japanesque to name a few. Same with my daylily orders but that would be a topic for a different forum eh?! Anyway my fingers and neck are tired will post more orders tomorrow. Good Nite Kay! Rena'

Thank you, Rena! I love looking up varieties of iris, and you've given me hours and hours of fun.
It does, however, bring up another important question: when the mailman, or mailwoman, or postal worker, or UPS individual, staggers to your doorstep with your various orders, it would seem to me that, absent an army of gardeners (for which you would be greatly envied), you'll inevitably have to put many of them into some sort of holding pattern before you can get them into the ground. How do you keep them until you can get them to their, well, final resting place?

Well Kay I have 2 acres and I decided to lay down cardboard (thickly) and have a dump truck load of dirt brought in. Then all I have to do is spread the dirt. It will be a raised garden with creosote logs as the border. Yes, they are poisonous however I won't be eating my Iris. :) Nor will this garden be anywhere near where anything edible will be grown. I buy spring water for drinking and the boxes that the gallons of water come in are unbelievably thick. The boxes come with 6 gallons of water each in them so as you can well imagine they are tough boxes.

I do have a tiller but I'm tilled out! Too much tilling, just thinking about it makes my teeth chatter and brain quake. lol

So the planting part is easy as pie! No tilling, or weeding just move a little soil to the side and voila! And after the planting is all done I will apply Preen weed preventer thickly.

And I am making plant tags (copper) right now so they will all be done by Sept.

O.K. Kay I went and found most of my receipts... Boy I wasn't as organized with those as I thought that I was. If I have received my orders I will tell you and list the bonuses as well. With Blue J you pick your bonuses and I forgot to separate those on my lists. And let's face it if they leave out some there are so many I'll be none the wiser. lol
The daughter (I can't remember her name at the moment) was
so very nice on the phone.

And I guess since I started with the largest order 1st I'll just continue largest to smallest. Also you will notice some
duplicates, that was due to me trying to go by memory what I had ordered. That was dumb Denny! And then one order I made at 2:30 A.M. Well that was ignorant as heck also! lol
One of the Iris I ordered 4 of and it is an Aril and I don't even know yet if they'll live or die. Aw well live and learn. Last year I ordered a lot of several and for what? I dunno, so I tried not to do that again but failed with one order. So now I have a binder with all the Iris that I ordered (and previously owned) listed alphabetically. It helps but I still miss and accidentally order sometimes what I own already or have on order. A result of having had more seizures than I can count I believe. But alas life is good, my health is grand now!
Hopefully my memory will follow suit.

    Without further ado...

Echo Iris Garden - Owner Ernie is so very nice also. He had
open heart surgery earlier this year and not a month later he was already peetering around in his iris gardens! You just can't keep a good gardener down!
Acoma, Amigo, Beaux Art, Blue Shimmer, i. germanica, Jean Guymer, Los Coyotes, Mayan Poppy, Melody, Mme. Chereau, Nigerian Raspberry, Nordica, Paper Doll, Six Pack, Cascade Splendor, Butterscotch Kiss, Kona Coast, Mulberry Rose, Puccini, Queen In Calico, Queen's Circle, Purple Pepper, Purissima, Red Polish (can't wait to see this bloom in person), Syncopation, Whispering Spirits, Tennessee Woman, Tennessee Gentleman, Street Walker, Total Obsession, Melted Butter, Hot Line, Hey Looky, Aplomb.

    Napa Country Iris Garden -
Louisa's Song, Mister Flounce, Jurassic Park, Aardvark Lark,
Chocolate Moose, Dance Hall Dolly, Decadence, Drinks At Sunset, Grape Expectations, Grizzly Gosling (this is the one everyone thought was ugly, I think it's the most beautiful flower ever!), High Master, Moonlit Water, Peekaboo Zebu, Who's Your Daddy, Solar Fire, Squid Squirt, Spiced Tiger, Upper Hand

This is an order from an e-bay seller - rebloomirislover
Her name is Sherry and she is so very sweet! Her little boy Conner helps her with her gardens.
Zebra Halo (variegated foliage), Reincarnation, Curtain Up, Sundown Saber, Ring Around Rosie, Odoratissima, Sneezy, Zebra Night (variegated foliage), Tropical Butterfly, Hotdogs & Mustard, Grape Snakez, Tanzanian Tangerine, Cantina, Bonus - Juicy Fruit, Violet Returns, Bengal Tiger & she said "other surprises" I'm excited for this order!
I think she told me she would be shipping July 15

His Iris Garden - Constant communication from this seller as well. Very nice people.
Double Click, Tropical Butterfly (yep I see the duplicate order, sigh), Abundant Sunshine, Larry Gaulter, Bay Rum, Stairway To Heaven, Mary Frances, Cabot Cove, Zebra Iris X2 (any variegated duplicates ARE on purpose as they are my favorites!), Becky Miller, Charlotte Rose, Infernal Fire
received an e-mail that my order will ship out July 15 also.

Williamson Farm Flowers - I spoke to Alicia Williamson by phone and she was so sweet also! Send me a nice plant I might remember you BE nice to me and I'll remember you always! A plant makes an indention in my ground, kindness makes an indention in my heart. -Rena'-

Japanesque, Little Freak, Schortman's Garnet Ruffles, Tiger Talk, Jungle Warrior I received this order already and received 2 bonus Iris So Grand & Castle Stronghold an extra Japanesque, Little Freak & Jungle Warrior. These are all growing strong except So Grand, it is struggling. We'll see if it pulls through or not.

    Willow Bend Iris -
Oyez (an Aril) X4 (you guessed it my 2:30 A.M. order, lol)
    Cherry Glen, Drama Queen X2

Daylilies By The Pond - Sara is so very kind also! Most of my order was daylilies but I did have 3 Iris on the order.
Candy Apple Classic, Birthday Greetings & Dandy Candy. Sara sent an extra Candy Apple Classic & Dandy Candy.

Sunshine Annie's - Invoice is AWOL So this one will have to wait 'til I find it.

Also I am putting together an order for Rockytops. But I have so many coming that I might wait 'til next year on that one.

O.K. Kay I better get some shut eye as I have 65 daylilies to plant and 30 lilies tomorrow.

    Rena'
