yellow bearded iris

I'm looking for a bright yellow iris preferably a tall variety(30-36"high). A re-blooming type would be good but I don't know if that would work in my zone area(4)? My iris's bloom from Mid-May until Mid-June.

    Hi Cherril,
Tall bearded iris rebloomers usually die in your zone. Since your spring bloom is so late, they try to rebloom in October or November and get frozen. It's probably best for you to avoid reblooming tall bearded irises.

My friends who grow irises in your zone tell me that Elsa Sass is a great grower and bloomer. Joyce Terry was also brought up- I love that iris. Finally, one person in Minnesota said that Silent Screen Star bloomed this year for her, but it's too soon for her to make a full assessment of its strengths over time.

Good luck on your quest for good yellow irises!

I have some Yellows. Look at my gallery and see if you find one. I can tag it to dig after they bloom. I am in zone 4/5 and rebloomers try but get frost bit late october.

Thanks for the kind replies from hosenemsesis and aquawise. I will try and get the recommended varieties. I can't take up your offer of plants, I live in Canada and crossing the border as a person is getting bad, I think getting a plant into Canada will be impossible.

I've got 'Love the Sun' which is a re-bloomer. This is its second summer and first bloom cycle. Not sure what will happen later this summer with rebloom, but I can follow-up with what happens. I did read that I can get re-bloom in my zone with this one.

I'm a novice with irises, but I've been researching the same subject. I've read mostly good things about "Harvest of Memories," a bright yellow, slightly fragrant rebloomer. An iris gardener from northern Minnesota (zone 3b) posted good things about it on another garden forum website. (To view the comment, do a google search on: Garden of Memories Zone 3b) Maybe one of our more experienced members can share their experiences with this variety. I'd like to hear more about it too!

Another helpful site might be the Minnesota Iris Society's page on irises that rebloom in Minnesota. (Link below.)

Hope you find a yellow that works for you!

Oops! To view that comment from the zone 3b person, the search should be on: Harvest of Memories Zone 3b. (Not "Garden of Memories" as I originally posted. Sorry!
