Get a small "angle-poise" desk lamp, standard bulb not halogen, and put in a compact fluorescent bulb. Get a lamp with a good reflector that will send the light downwards onto the plant, make sure it will accept the longer compact fluorescent bulb shape.

Bromeliads vary, but generally require bright light but not full sun. A small plant would only need something like an 11W bulb, a larger plant perhaps 20W. You will have to adjust the height of the lamp from the plant depending on how it responds.

I second the LED lamp. I bought one of those 3 watt, 60-bulb (I think) bulbs. At 1/2" from the plant, it delivers more than 100,000 lux. With these bulbs, you do not need a reflector because the light does not scatter much.
