I can tell things are different in Texas, ruthie! Up our way I had never heard of any veggie peas other than English peas until last year. Your black eyed peas, cowpeas, whatever you call them, were new to me and I'm not so new. So I always think of peas as one of the first things I can plant. Sometimes it even snows after I plant and they are fine. The cowpeas and green beans would never make it in such cold. I'm trying cowpeas for the first time this year and won't be planting for almost two more months! I have some other peas in already. I'll probably put more in after a few weeks and they will almost catch up with the slow growing ones of early spring. Hopefully all of them will produce before summer gets really hot and dry.

I'd guess now would be a fine time to plant peas in CT if your looking at Green Arrow, Alaska, etc. Peas. I don't know when your soil warms and the last frost comes but wait till then for planting beans.
