I don't know, but you might look through the offerings of Italian cultivars by Seeds of Italy, Grow Italian etc.

Annette, you might also try contacting Salt Spring Seeds, located somewhat close to you in B.C. The owner is very active in the Canadian heirloom seed movement, and was one of the founders of Seeds of Diversity. If you describe your bean to them, it's possible they could identify it.

Thanks Zeedman, I have already looked there and they don't have the bean I'm looking for, I buy quite a few seeds plus my garlic from Salt Spring Seeds, I'll just keep looking :o). Could be a bean that was just handed down from neighbor to neighbor originally coming across the pond with someone who immigrated.
I grow 3 varieties of pole beans at present Cherokee Trail of Tears (DH's fav.), an Italian bean I was given the seed of 40 years ago (came from Italy early 1900's) and another bean called Mr Tung's a bean a chinese immigrant brought over from China in the early 1900's. I love these old varieties that have a story behind them.

Annette you may want to look up Barlotto beans they come in both bush or climing types they are a pale green with red on the pods. Where on the Island are you I am between Parksville and Coombs Cheers Marj

Hi Marj, I'm in Nanaimo. I just googled Barlotto beans and they do look very much like the ones I had, maybe a little more red on the pods than mine had, the seed is the right shape sooo maybe. The last seed I had of mine was old and not stored properly, I couldn't get it to germinate. I'll look for Barlotto and give it a try. Thanks for getting me headed in the right direction.

If it is a bush been it could be a lupini bean . It is hard to tell without a picture.
