The cautious thing to do would be to sink the pots & keep them in a basin or pool, & protect them during freezing weather.

Even here in 8a, my unnamed purple La's always died back in the winter.

Last winter I covered them every time our temps went below about 30 degrees F, & they stayed green all year & bloomed a lot better this spring.

& different types have different needs:
I found that the golden yellow ones would bloom only if they were in a bog, while the purple ones would bloom in regular but wettish soil.

I have all of my Louisiana irises growing in the ground. I have found that they are very adaptable to different environments. I have a camp on a lake nearby where it floods at least 3 weeks every year and they thrive there. I also have them at my house on dry ground and in full Louisiana sun. I water them along with everything else. No special care needed. Hope this helps. Good luck!

Mine are doing well planted in the garden, and watered like Japanese. Mulch them really, really heavily.
