Convention Picture CD

I don't think I'll get in any trouble for this since I won't be making any money. If this is against the rules please let me know and I'll never make another post like this again.

With that aside,

I just got a picture disk from the Convention today. It's supposed to have a picture of every guest iris that was at this year's Convention. I don't know if that's true because I thought there was supposed to be 2,500 guest iris, but the disk has 900 pictures on it. ???

Anyway, I ordered mine while at the Convention and hadn't thought about other's that might want to buy it.

Included on the disk is an order form for more copies and I thought I would share the information needed to order a copy of the disk if anyone that wasn't able to make it to the convention wanted to buy one.

So like I said I won't make anything off of this, I just wanted to make it available to anyone else that was interested. I'm not connected to these people in any way and this is strictly to help people that might not know of it any other way.

This is what they have to say in the order form:

"Additional copies of this CD will be available for limited time. The cost of $20 dollars will include shipping. Make checks payable to GSLIS.

Convention Guest Iris CD

565 St. Joseph

Florissant, Missouri 63031

gardenklr@aol.com (Put Convention CD in the subject line.)"

I have no idea if anyone will be interested but I wanted to help anyone that might be.

So how is the cd? :-)

I was thinking it wouldn't be available for a while yet.

    Hello there Brock,
Care to give us a review of the CD before we decide to buy it?

I third the motion. What's your opinion Brock? Perhaps the discrepancy in numbers is that the same cultivar was featured in more than one garden?

I didn't know they had unnamed seedlings as well at convention gardens. Is that so? Saw some very pretty ones at your site. Would these be seedlings that will be introduced?

To me, seeing the seedlings is the best feature of the garden tours. It is exciting to see what's waiting in the wings to be introduced. Also, guesting seedlings becomes a sounding board with positive or negative feedback for the hybridizer so he knows if the public wants the numbered seedling or not. Seedlings are available for an AIS garden award called an H.C. (High Commendation) voted by AIS judges, which is an encouragement to introduce the seedling. If an AIS convention consisted entirely of varieties I've already seen, I doubt that I would go.

I think it's worth the money.

The pictures are all nice clear shots.

My own personal prefference: I always try to get shot's that are head on from a certain angle. Most of them are like this, but not all of these are that type of picture. It certainly doesn't mean the pics are bad.

And if you want me to be really picky, I think a very small number of them have had the colors adjusted. Again, that doesn't mean it's a bad picture either, and it's only a small few that I thought I saw it on.

Regarding no-name seedlings there are 80+ but I didn't actually count them all.

Also as an added bonus (imo) several are taken by the actual garden owners. For some reason that appeals to me. To know that the people that grew them were taking some of the pictures.

Do I think it could be improved? Yes, but what can't? :)

I say if you want to see lots of new ones without someone else's personal taste dictating which are shown it's a must.

I know I've put up a good sized clump of pictures, but I didn't come anywhere close to posting (or even photographing for that matter) all of the guest iris.

The only problem I can say I have is that the "powerpoint viewer" doesn't seem to want to work, but I think just about all computers these days have a button you can click to view images as a slideshow. The entire problem may just be due to my own ignorance, but I wanted to be sure to mention that before you buy it.

I hope this helps. I really can't judge it fairly for evryone's taste though. :)

    Thanks Brock for your opinions.

I submitted photos for that CD and now I guess I have to buy it to see if they made the cut. ;-)

    Thank you Brock.

I like seeing the seedlings but if I fell in love with one I'd be heartbroken if it didn't get introduced :-(
Thanks Walter for instructing me. In retirement I'm going to get to a convention!

Linda, I hope your photos do appear. Also that would explain the differences mentioned by eroctuse. Different folks with different cameras! I feel much more informed.

It looks like the same thing is posted on iris photos for $15.00

Thank-you AnneOw. That's news to me. If you can buy it for less, by all means go for it.

I just copied what was on the cd.
