Master Historic Iris Listing

Greetings everyone,

Normally, I only post this listing on the Historic Iris Preservation Society (HIPS) forum, but with the recent comments on my photos in the gallery here at GW, along with an e-mail conversation with an Irisarian, I've decided to post this file here as well.

Over ther years, I've been compiling a listing of historic Irises being sold through commercial vendors. I have done business with the majority of the vendors on this listing, and are few are referals from other historic Irisarians.

The listing is accurate, for the most part, for all historic Iris introductions, (from 1978 and prior), as well as introductions that will become historic next (1979). I did not attempt to put every single commercial grower on this listing. However, each of the companies represented have at least one variety that is only being sold through them.

I hope this listing will help you locate that one Iris you may be searching for, but maybe having a hard time with. I know that by compiling this list, I have found several that I was looking for.

This is my own personal project and not something started by HIPS. If you have any inquiries, please e-mail me. Mistakes occur, and with a listing this large, I'm sure there are some. If you need more information on a particular source, most can be found on my website, under the LINKS section.

If you are a commercial Iris grower and want to be included in this listing, send me an email of your historic iris list I will happily include them. Enjoy.

Sincerely,

Carlos

Wow, Carlos, what an immense project. I hope to use it to jog my memory of the iris my mother grew in the fities and sixties and be able to find some of them.

Thank you!!

Carlos, thank you for your time away from the garden doing all this computer work! Do you keep a separate xcel listing of cultivars which have died, or as we say in Texas, "won't grow for me", so you'll know to replace them? My loss ratio is about 20/450 and I need a way to keep up with them. Thank you, Val in Hot Dry West Texas

Val: Yes, I keep a list of what I have growing as well as list that I call "defunct Iris." I have my Irises organized by type, cultivar, hybridizer, intro year, who I got it from and what year I got it. This way, if any do bite the dust, I know who to check first. For me, an Iris will mostly bite the dust its first year. Once they make it past that first winter, I rarely lose an Iris.

Shadow: Thanks for the XL Viewer link. Pretty nifty.

Carlos, What a wonderful service you have done! I'm sure this took many hours. There are 6 on my list that no one else shows - I'm going to check to see that all are still living, will let you know if changes are needed. Thanks, Marvin E (Mountaintop Iris)
