Growing under Lights

Metal Halide Light Fixtures

Hey-

IÃ¢ÂÂm a first year indoor grower (normally, the winterÃ¢ÂÂs near me are not this cold). I recently purchased a few Metal Halide Bulbs (175W) to use during the first stages of my tomato plants, but when I attempted to connect them to my light fixtures, they did not work. I contacted the seller and he told me I needed a M57 Ballast. I was wondering if anyone knew of light fixtures that fit that ANSI code? I considered replacing the Ballast but my eyes are not that strong anymore, and I although I like gardening, I do not want it to kill me. Does anyone have any other suggestions? I have spent a lot of time over the last few days looking across the internet but no luck. Thanks.

The ballast on your light fixture should have an identification plate on it that will give you the ballast type and wattage. You have to get bulbs that match your ballast.

Check your local phone book for any hydroponics stores near you. If you can't figure out your fixture you can take it to one of them and they can set you up with the correct bulb.
