hi, are you talking about asiatic lilies? the stems die each fall and next spring will grow new ones. they are heavy feeders lile lots of fertilizer. the only thing that will kill a lily is soddy ground that doesn't drain. you ought to grow the trumpet and orienpets the fragrance is wonderful. delores
