Zone 5-ers: when did your lilies show up?

I'm Chicago area.

Need to figure out the empty spotsÂso I can fill them! I bought some things already, earlier than usual, and the clock is ticking. Although I take pictures of the emerging stuff every year, I have no dates in my records. My camera import consistently marks everything from 4 years ago, some random date I canÂt figure out, and I canÂt change it. I can change the date on a whole file, and it will revert as soon as I close it.

Mine are coming up too and I need to move them. Can I move them now or should I wait?

linnea, mine are poking through. This is rather early for me. I guess it's because of the unseasonable heatwave.

Thanks, Mone. I saw a species henryi on the south side of the house yesterday. That's like a zone 6 microclimate. I planted some bulbs very carefully yesterday, inching my way down through the soil. For all I know they may be "cheek by jowl" with an existing bulb, but at least they are in.

I potted up the sprouted lilies I bought a few weeks ago and had them in a sunny window in the basement. When I checked yesterday the asiatics had shot up over a foot tall! I put the pot outside, but still am not sure what to do with them. They would be harder to plant this way, so maybe potting them was a mistake. But they had too-long sprouts and I didnÂt know what else to do. The orientals I potted are still short, no more than 1-2 inches.

Hi Linnea, mine are coming up now, some even have about 6- inch growth, mostly Asiatics. I saw one OT poking through today.

Why not plant the potted lilies in the fall? That is what I am going to do with mine. Right now, they already have buds.

I also got sprouting bulbs and potted them up and some got over a foot tall. I just planted 6 of them outside today, if they don't immediately wilt I'll plant the rest over the weekend. But the asiatics I planted last year haven't come up yet, I don't know if they will. Everything else is up already - crocuses are done, hyacinths and squill are in full bloom, tulips are about to burst open any say now, muscari are starting to bloom, hostas are coming up, and all the roses and berry bushes and grapevines are leafing out.

Cleaning up the garden yesterday while the weather was warm, I did see couple of my oldest asiatics showing.

The asiatic Commander in Chief lilies I temporarily potted up are pretty crowded, 6 to a 10 inch pot. They will probably run out of root room, and they are not very deep. . Though if I left them in the pot, at least then I could find out what color they are before planting!

I'm in Kansas and most of mine are starting to poke up too, a little early but due to the May weather in April I shouldn't be surprise.
