I use granular Merit every year for borer control at a rate of 1/2-1 tsp per clump, depending on the size of the clump, applied in early spring just as the irises are breaking winter dormancy and beginning active growth. It needs to be watered in well immediately after application. It has eliminated my borer problem.

What can I do now? I just dug up my one iris bed and alot of them have a yucky goopy mess on them and some have borers in them. (Are borers worm looking things?) I cut off the goopy parts and only kept the hard rizomes but I heard you can dip them in bleach. What advice can you give me on keeping them healthy? Thanks!
