I've grown them once. I know I did not trellis them but I don't remember how much they sprawled, if any. I'll say they are bush.

ocalagirls, I grew them in 2012 and they were more vining than bush. The Crowder Peas were on the small size and I don't plan on planting them this year.

Thanks for the info. What's the flavor like? I don't mind if they are on the small side as long as they taste good. I usually grow zipper creams but I thought I'd try something different this year.

ocalagirls, they don't taste anything like the zipper cream peas. They make a darker broth than the zipper cream and the taste is stronger. The zipper cream pea is much milder tasting.

ocalagirls, try the purple hull cow pea and you will find that this will be a better pea than the Calico Crowder in my opinion. I also mix the zipper cream peas with the purples hull peas half & half and cook together as the zipper cream peas are to mild for my taste.
