If they're bush Romas, I wouldn't think so. Which do you have? Pole Romas need to be trellised, or they'd be all over the garden. Wouldn't a bush Roma take up the same space whether it was trellised or not, or do yours sprawl? Most wouldn't grow any taller or narrower if they were trellised!

So, what's your thinking about space and growing them on a trellis? (If they're bush Romas.)

Thanks for your reply, anney. To answer your question, I have the Roma II "bush" style plants. And as you stated, I always thought they were meant to be grown as a bush-style plant. I was just curious about using a trellis, although I had (and still have) my doubts as to whether this would even work at all.

Having said that, I was still curious if anyone had tried this option.

My guess is, it wouldn't work, but I could be wrong.

I have grown RomaII's for several years and never had need of a trellis or pole. They only grow about 2 feet high and very few beans are ever on the ground.
They are the most delicious bush bean I've ever grown.
