Good for you! I learned that lesson a few years ago and never looked back. In fact I told them personally to take me off their mailing list!! They did! :)

Love Burgards. They are here and planted. Growing like mad. Will keep them on my Bookmark list for next year.
Will not order from Spring hill or Brecks again. They are really owned by the same company. SO Burgard and Schreiner's are my picks for ALL my Iris from now on.

There are dozens of reputable iris growers. Here's a link to a bunch of them, with descriptions, Mr. Toad.
I think Springhill and Breck's run on a corporate model, whereas most of the good iris growers are mom and pop operations or small businesses. Aquawise was comparing Burgard's good service to the other companies.

I visited Bugards 2 seasons ago and it was a treat to see newer introductions in person. Very tidy.
And reasonable prices!

Spring Hill and Brecks are both owned by the former Michigan Bulb Co., and everybody should know what a disaster that company was.
