little black/white test on iris form!

Here's a little test on bearded iris form. These 2 iris are identical in color. 'Dover Beach' was introduced in the 70's

and 'Stairway To Heaven' in the 90's. Which is which?

Ok I know nothing about irises except how to collect them. Form is not my strong point in anything so I will be the first one to guess since I've already stated my claim. I am going to guess 1, 3, and 5 are Stairway To Heaven and 2, 4, 6, and 7 are Dover Beach. Now come one people GUESS. I want to know how far off I am. LOL

I guess that 1, 3, 5, and 7 are Stairway to Heaven and 2, 4, and 6 are Dover Beach.

Is there a term for irises that are the wider looking ones or the taller looking ones?

1, 3, 5, and 7 are Stairway To Heaven. Even numbers are Dover Beach.

That wider form is often called 'blocky'. I think when Edith Wolford was introduced she was described as 'blocky'. The older form without ruffles is sometimes called 'classic'.

Hurray! We learned our iris form lesson. I have also heard the older form without ruffles referred to as 'tailored.' I like tailored irises.
