Maybe bestlawyer means to harvest them as shelleys? I am growing pintos for the first time this year, so I don't know how best to describe the shelley stage. My brother, however, used to grow and harvest them as shelleys and they were outstanding, imho. He would blanch them and then freeze. They taste very different from dried pintos and, imo, far exceed them flavor wise.

So, it might help bestlawyer and myself if someone could describe when to harvest them for shelleys?

If you are talking about green beans, then I don't know. I've never heard of anyone eating pintos as green beans.

For green shellies, pick as the beans are full,the pods have lost the green and are sort of rubbery. They will be easy to shell at this stage. trsince is right on that shellies taste different than dried beans.
