    Lovely photos; thanks for sharing.

Can you let me know how you were able to insert the pictures into your message?

    Thanks again!

Great red color!! I keep looking for red lilies & mine always turn out to be an orange color of some kind. If you happen to remember the name please post it. You sure can be proud of those lilies.

How tall are your red lilies? I am on the other end of MaMoo, I bought some potted ones called Polka that were bright orange when I planted them 3 years ago, since then they look just like yours. They are only about 18" tall or so, but have reproduced heavily & are gorgeous this year. Must be something in my soil though, because they were definitly orange when I got them. Frankly, I like the red better though.

MaMoo, In Asiatics, two true reds are Cardinal and Rhodos. They are quite similar and are a vivid Red, and of medium height. In a Pixie, a nice Red is Red Carpet. Red Carpet is always my first lily to bloom each June. I've had it since 2001 and it has really spread. It definitely belongs in a front row when planting, due to height I think it will be ready to bloom for me in a week or so. In the plant description diary that I have kept of my own observations rather than just depending on catalog descriptions, I find that Red Carpet is a Scarlet Red, with an ever so slight coral tint. There are several nice dark reds also if you are interested in those names.

I will be getting my Red Storm Lilies (red carpet referred to ???) the end of next month and I was wondering what the thoughts were of placement. Here is Santa Fe...lots of sun and high temps, along with not the best of soils. Soil tends to dry out and is clay-ish. I hear they like the sun but should I be placing it somewhere other than my little xericscape garden?
    Thanks for the input!

    Peggie,
Lilies are tolerable to less than perfect soil, but if you do not have 6-8 weeks of low temperature in winter they will not bloom for you. I am afraid they are not good for your climate.

Thanks Lily grower for the names of some good reds. I am sorry it took me so long to get back to this post. I would have liked to have planted some of those you named in 06. I have made a note of the names & will look for them next season. I did happen to find one called Monte Negro & it has turned out to be a good read. I like the reds because they show up so good from the road & my house sits back in the woods some. Thanks again lily grower! MaMoo

My favorite red Asiatics are 'Black Out' and 'Black Bird'. Red Pixie looks very dull next to them. I have not seen Red Carpet in person. I always suspected that it is a Breck's advertising trick (made-up name, like their "Lily Tree"). I might be wrong.

    'Black Out'

Alina thanks for the great shot of Black Out the color is just what I am looking for. The darker the better. I will have to add it to my list of lilies to get. MaMoo

    MaMoo,
I would not say that the color of 'Black Out' is very dark. It is rather the brightest and purest red color in Lilies. The darkest red Lily is probably 'Landini'. My picture of it is not very good, sorry.
The gray stuff on leaves is pepper: quick fix to repell deer :~)

It is a very strong Lily with beautiful shiny foliage. The foliage is still neat and dark green.

Alina thanks for the photo of Landini. After viewing your shot of it you are right it is much darker than Black Out. I think seeing the two lilies I am looking more for the bright stand out red of Black Out. I have Black Out on my list of must get. Thanks for your help. MaMoo

You are so welcome. If you will not find 'Black Out', 'Black Bird' is also very bright. It does not have the darker petal centers like 'Black Out'.
Both look spectacular with bright yellow Lilies.
