Black-seeded beans can be blue when harvested as ripe shellies. I've even grown a pole wax bean that had that color as a shelly (didn't try it cooked). My best guess for a blue shelly though, without seeing a photo, would be the heirloom pole variety "Blue Shackamaxon".

Jackson's Wonder. Altho I describe the cooked color of green shellies as slate grey.

The Jackson ones are not them. The ones she’s referring to are blue/gray when cooked. No speckles at all Cooked or raw. I can’t recall what color they were when shelled but know they are Not the speckled butter beans. They aren’t as plump and are literally not speckled at all and are a blue/gray color when cooked. I’m from SC too and remember picking them from bushes. But my aunt and uncle who planted them and “put them up” are both gone and I can’t find them anywhere either. Still searching..,

Did you ever find the blue green butterbeans. I too had them as a youngster and they were nothing at all like the limas that you get a grocery store or farmers market. The shelled beans were smaller than most limas, green when raw and when cooked remained green with a slight blue tint. Please let me know if you ever locate this bean seed. (no speckles) Still searching.....
