A local extension service near here (W. WA) says to sow them sixty to ninety days before the average first hard frost date in your area.

Note that's HARD frost, not first light frosts, which peas can usually handle.

I have had no difficulty getting fall crops in both zones 5 and 6. You should be fine. Enjoy!

I sowed them last year in early August and got a nice October harvest. I'd guess that mid August to Labor Day would be a good planting time for you?

Last year I sowed them several times starting in mid August for a fall crop. The ones sowed at the end of Sept. finally germinated - I think the soil was too hot. We had a really late frost last year, so we at peas at the end of November!

I read about pre-sprouting them and then planting in well moistened soil to help them sprout in the heat. I'm going to try that this year.

Thanks all! Surprisingly, I've got a few peas planted in very late spring that are still doing well in our light summer heat (barely in the 70s most days!) and I plan to try and plant some more in Aug/Sept.

I've had nicer fall crops of snow and snap peas some years than the spring crop. All depends on the weather.
