My 2 cents is YES, if you thought them beautiful and wanted some, I would spend a little time digging the beauties and bringing them home.

Absolutely! Because they were mowed, they may not have had enough opportunity to store nutrients for next year's bloom, but they will certainly be viable. Even if they don't bloom next spring (and they might), they should bloom beautifully the year after. You'll be glad you saved them!

I have been moving iris that have been mowed over for 25+ years with no bloom. I started spring of 2004. About 15% of those I moved last spring bloomed this spring and I expect full bloom next spring. Lee Mincy

What a great opportunity to get some nice irises. You can select rhizomes from each large clump to get a variety which you can reselect from when they show themselves in bloom. I'm sure that when you start digging you will find many more clumps down there than you had expected. You can offer them to a garden club "free for the digging" and meet new garden people.

My grandmother always mowed her irises and they were beautiful. I don't mow mine, but I understand why she did. She was too busy to clean the beds by hand! Kynda

I've mowed a bed over late in the season before. I still had good bloom the following year. It will depend on when it was done as to whether or not they will bloom this Spring.

Save the ones you want and even some extra ones so you can offer them up on the garden exchange. Iris exchanges are always snapped up in a jiffy. Sounds like you've got some serious bartering power to me!

I hired a guy to mow my yard 4 yesrs ago on Mother's Day. His helper mowed my bearded irises down and they were in full bloom. The stems came back the next year but haven't bloom at all in 3 years. Not a bud one. Don't know what to do to get them to bloom again. Anyone have any advice.

Have you tried fertilizer? How crowded are they? You might need to divide them.
