new raised beds?

Hey, all; I haven't been on the iris forum before, 'cause I never owned any. I tried once, but dh ran over them with the lawn mower (poor planning). But now I've returned to Kansas, where my mother grew dozens of irises, and I'd love to grow them.

I'm about to receive a "box" (unknown quantity) of irises removed from a garden with too many, so I'm wondering where to plant them. Could I build them a raised bed? I haven't used these in the past, but I'm fascinated, and that would allow me to put them in a sunny spot and still keep dh from running over them with the mower.

Will they survive the winter if I do this? How deep should they be? Any advice would be welcome!

Jenny
