What were they?

20 years ago

I noticed some flat tiny, kind or rusty colored, flat bugs on my irises. There seemed to be like groups of a slightly larger one and then groups of the tiny ones wiht it. Any help on what they might be? I sprayed them with something I had that just said good for flowers and plants. They are planted with my day lilys. I hadn't checked to see if they are gone. Thanks, Tammy

Sound like aphids but to be sure take the next sample to a nursery.

I'm guessing aphids, too. I've had them on the irises before, but they didn't do any noticable damage. I just left them alone, knowing that there are several beneficial insects out there that eat aphids, and if I let things be, Mother Nature would send in the troops to take care of the situation. And she did.
